Every last Friday of the month, a cycling event called Critical Mass takes place all over the world. It all started with the idea to get communities together to help raise awareness about bicycles offering an alternative and more sustainable means of transport.

It originated in San Francisco in 1992 and has since then spread worldwide to over 300 cities. In the past it was referred to as part-protest, but it quickly transformed into a lively social movement, bringing people into their cities, exploring suburbs and making new friends along the way.

In Durban, cyclists gather at Moses Mabhida Stadium, usually outside Nino’s from 17:30, with the “masses” taking off to take on the streets from around 18:00.

The ride is very relaxed, so there is absolutely no pressure in feeling like you have to be a pro-cycler in order to take part!

Rides take place every last Friday of the month and when the full moon is out!
